The Alternatives
How PlanMason pricing compares
Every option below can produce a business plan. The differences are what you pay, how the plan gets built, and what lands on the reviewer's desk. Competitor pricing is as published in mid-2026; check their sites for current rates.
| PlanMason | LivePlan | Bizplan | Hiring a plan writer | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | $49 one time per plan (founding, through Aug 31, 2026; $99 from Sept 1, 2026) | Subscription, roughly $20 to $40 per month depending on tier and billing | Subscription, about $29 per month, with annual and lifetime options | One-time fee, typically $2,000 and up |
| Cost over 12 months | $49 to $99 total | Roughly $240 to $480 | Roughly $250 to $350 | $2,000+ |
| How the plan gets built | Coached interview: 9 phases that pressure-test answers and demand evidence | Guided forms and templates with AI writing assist | Drag-and-drop builder with templates | A human writes it from your notes and calls |
| Financials | 36-month proforma, DSCR analysis, three stress-test scenarios, traced to source inputs | Forecasting tools plus plan-vs-actuals tracking | Basic financial projections | Depends entirely on the writer |
| Lender packet output | DOCX plan + XLSX workbook + cover letter + one-pager, built for underwriter review | PDF and Word export of the plan document | PDF export and online sharing | Usually a polished document; workbook varies |
| Ongoing tracking after funding | No. PlanMason ends at the funded plan | Yes: plan-vs-actuals dashboards and QuickBooks sync | Limited | No |
To be fair to the alternatives: LivePlan's plan-vs-actuals tracking and QuickBooks sync are genuinely useful after you are funded, and a good human plan writer brings judgment no software has. If you want ongoing budget tracking, LivePlan is built for that. PlanMason is built for one job: getting the plan approved. See the full comparison at PlanMason vs LivePlan.
Pricing FAQ
The questions founders ask about the price
Q1Why is PlanMason one-time instead of a subscription?
Because a business plan is a deliverable, not a habit. You need a finished packet to hand a lender, landlord, grant committee, investor, or VR counselor. Once you have it, a monthly charge buys you nothing. Subscription plan software is priced for the vendor, not for the founder who needs one funded plan.
Q2What happens to the price after August 31, 2026?
The founding price of $49 per plan runs through August 31, 2026. On September 1, 2026 the price moves to $99 per plan. The product is identical at both prices. Plans you have already paid for are not affected by the change.
Q3Do I pay before seeing anything?
No. The full coached interview and the draft plan are free, with no credit card required. You pay the one-time charge only when you click Generate to produce the final lender packet. If the interview convinces you the plan is not ready, you have spent nothing.
Q4Is $49 per plan or per account?
Per plan. Each plan is a one-time charge that covers the full packet plus one revision. There is no account fee, no seat fee, and no recurring charge of any kind.
Q5What exactly do I get for the money?
A complete reviewer-ready packet: a 12-section business plan in Word format, a financial-projections workbook in Excel with a 36-month proforma, Sources and Uses, debt service and DSCR analysis, three stress-test scenarios, a cover letter, and a one-page executive summary. DOCX and XLSX, the formats underwriters and reviewers actually open.
One price. Every funding path.
SBA loans, conventional financing, commercial leases, equipment finance, expansion capital, equity raises, nonprofit grants, and VR self-employment plans. Same $49, same packet standard.
Free interview and draft plan. Pay only when you generate.
